What are the pros? Perky Flavor. Lush foliage.
What are the cons? Should have planted more!
Updated review (previous one lost formatting when submitted.)
Planted: March 29th. Harvested: 35 days when tops began cresting. Soil: friable veggie/leaf/wood chip compost worked by chickens the previous spring/summer followed by oat grass in fall/winter. Sun: morning shade/afternoon sun. Water: fairly consistent. Temperature: cold & hot swings (50's to 80's.) Spacing: tighter than bulbous types. Leaves: A nice lush head of six about 10-12" tall. Roots: deep pink with white striations. 4-5 inches long (not counting the root tail.) Raw, the roots were crisp with a spirited yet medium bite and pleasant texture. I plan to try them fermented, served on a buttered caraway cracker, or sliced & chilled with cucumbers & herbed sour cream. Raw tops were pungent to my tongue, so I fed some to the rabbits but cooked, they were a pleasant addition to my morning stir-fried veggies with egg.
A productive, satisfying radish that I'll replant in the fall.
