Purple Koronis Bean

1 Review | Write a Review
Bred by the late Robert Henry Lobitz, 'Koronis Purple' is a favorite of everyone who grows it. Bob used to say "Beans are a poor man's jewels," and with the 'Koronis Purple' he created a true gem. With an intensely bright purple color, these beans are beautiful to look at, but they also make a wonderful dry kidney-type bean. The plants are productive with a bush habit, easy to grow even in wet years. We've found a few interesting rogues in our 'Koronis Purple' population -- including shiny yellow beans and mottled purple and black beans -- each a testament to the great diversity present in Bob's collection. If you find any particularly exciting rogues, be sure to let us know! Grown ecologically in New Jersey by the Experimental Farm Network.

What are the pros? tough plants

What are the cons? not much

These beans produced even though planted late, not weeded well, miserable heat - typical Ohio summer weather of too much rain early then drought in July and August. They were in a forgotten corner of the garden, and when I found them among the weeds, they were loaded with beautiful purple, nearly dry beans. A good kidney bean, tough and productive, looking forward to growing them again with proper care.
