I grew these over "winter" and we ate these early spring (we didn't get a proper frost this year, so this is relative). We have clay soil and loads of slugs and snails, but these did fine. We got loads of beautiful purple heads (different purples!). They grew at different rates, and a few bolted during a warm spell, but we cooked and froze the leaves, they are also delicious. A few showed up in late spring and produced delicious heads. I liked saut?ing the florets with fava beans and garlic scares. The non-purple part starts out cream-colored but cooks up green. My cauliflower-hating Dad thought it was purple broccoli and I didn't correct him, he loved it. I'll be growing loads of this from now on!
