What are the pros? Greens not bitter. Bulbs sweet
What are the cons? None.
This is the turnip I grew up with. Sow the seeds lightly in the fall. Harvest the greens as they grow, eventually thinning out the plants to where they are about 3 to 4 inches apart, maybe even more if you want huge bulbs. Let the bulbs develop during the cold weather. It got down into the 20's for about a week in this area, and after it was over, I was pulling up some nice softball sized bulbs. I still have most of my turnips in the ground waiting to be pulled.
The bulbs are nice and tender when boiled.
