My favorite carrot---of all time! I sowed these in early August, with excellent germination. The site was a large ridge, carefully probed to remove large rocks/clods; the soil is fairly heavy. I worked a little wood ash and kelp meal into the bed before planting, and the carrots also received one mid-season feeding of liquid kelp.
The results were impressive: by mid-October I was harvesting (and am continuing to harvest) large, handsome roots of a pretty light red hue, with little hairiness and few deformities (despite my soil's considerable clay content). Even more important, the flavor is sweet and the texture is superb. Indeed, never have I encountered a more tender carrot. Highly recommended!
