In the Annals of American Vegetable Varieties, William Warner Tracy in 1902 makes mention of a “scarlet red turnip” which was called “Dark Red Ball”. Our offering called “Red Ball” is reputed to be an old heirloom from Northern India. We are told that it is a uniform and bright red turnip that should be very easy to grow. Both the leaves and root are edible. If you like turnips, this should be a new one on your list. Definitely show worthy if you grow them big!
