(Dahlia variabilis) Rich bronze-red foliage makes this a standout! Semi-to fully double flowers, petals very wide and full, in hues of crimson, scarlet, orange, yellow, and cream. Compact plants reaching 20 inches or so. All-America Award winner for 1975.

What are the pros? Foliage color, bloom time

What are the cons? None

Review:

I loved growing these dahlias. I startedd my seeds a couple weeks before our last frost date in a cold frame. They germinated quickly with a great germinatiob rate. They have grown well ever since and started blooming in early July. It's September now and they are still putting on a show. Pinching small plants helps promote more flowers and branching. They're our little garden darlings. The foliage is stunning as well!

What are the pros? they are dahlias

What are the cons? none

Review:

This is my first time planting dahlias, and to be honest, I have been in love with them for years. I was worried that they wouldn't like the heat here, but they have just started blooming and have really begun to shine. The foliage is a beautiful dark green with tinges of red. I completely expected the flowers to be all these warm, wonderful reds, oranges, and yellows. My first three blooms are lavender! A color not noted here, but I still thoroughly enjoy them! Think I might move them so that they can get bigger. It's a little tight where they are now.
