This pre-1770s English heirloom pea was saved from extinction by Ida Shriner Risser, a Pennsylvania Dutch housewife in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The 6 foot vines yield an abundance of small 2 ½ to 3 inch sickle-shaped pods with peak cropping in early to mid-June. The sweet freshly shelled peas make excellent petits pois.
