Rosemary (Rosy)

(Rosmarina officinalis) Tender perennial to 30 inches. The plant has been used for centuries both medicinally and in the kitchen. Small evergreen shrub is covered with needle-like aromatic leaves and a myriad of tiny pink or blue flowers in summer. Perennial in mild-winter climates; elsewhere, grow in containers for overwintering indoors. The dark green leaves may be used fresh or dried. Flowers are beloved by bees. We offer select seed that is easier to start, but it still can be somewhat challenging. The plants are lovely and can live for years with proper care.

What are the pros? The idea of growing rosemary

What are the cons? None sprouted. :(

Review:

I'm an avid home. Gardener and I know how to get seeds to sprout. Rosemary is notoriously difficult to germinate, but not one sprouted. I started them indoors with a heating mat in coconut coir under grow lights. Months later, nothing. I'm disappointed, but will buy another pack and try again. Meanwhile I got this year's rosemary from cuttings out of a packet of store bought fresh rosemary. It's much easier to root than to start from seed, so I might stick with that if my second try also fails.

What are the pros? Keeps growing, container plant

What are the cons? Took a long time to take off

Review:

I wasn't sure how well this would grow, as the seeds took a long time under the grow light to germinate, but eventually they did. I planted my seedlings in a container, and by the end of the summer the plants were big enough to begin to harvest some rosemary. I brought the container inside for the winter. At one point the plant seemed dry and dead, but after some TLC it came back with fresh shoots. It has now been over a year since I planted it from seedlings, and it is thriving.

What are the pros? None

What are the cons? Low germ; failure to thrive

Review:

Seed arrived stamped low germination - no mention of this on website before purchase. I eventually got two seeds to germinate (out of 50) but the seedlings never progressed past a few leaves under broad spectrum lights. Never have had problems with rosemary previously - either from seed or purchased plants.

What are the pros? It's rosemary

What are the cons? None

Review:

I started my rosemary seeds the first week of march. I followed the planting instructions on the back of packet and kept them in a warm spot under grow lights. I planted three seeds in each of the nine 2" x2" pots i had for them and mist them gently with water every day for the first week. I know that the germination rare s for rosemary are low so I only expected to get maybe two or three sprouts. Barely two weeks later I go out to check on all of my other seeds that I had planted the same day that I planted the rosemary and was completely shocked. I and over half of the rosemary seeds i planted had sprouted and are going strong. This is why I only buy from Baker Creek, 'cause they have the best and most high quality seeds i have come by in my many years of gardening experience. Though I will say that the only downside of it is that the rosemary seeds didn't come with my big order of seeds, but customer service was very apologetic and sent my missing seeds to me right away.

What are the pros? Its rosemary

What are the cons? Its rosemary

Review:

Out of the entire packet only one seed germinated, no complaints about the plant itself, but rosemary is notoriously hard to germinate, i didn't try anything special. The plant itself is growing relatively quicker than i thought it would.
