What are the pros? Keeps for 3 weeks in Fridge!
What are the cons? less flavorful than lettuce
I found these easy to grow in biochar soil. Nearly 90% germination. They did not look like the picture but rather were somewhat elongated, variegated with white and splash of green. Really beautiful! The best thing about radicchio is that it lasts for a very long time in fridge! I found one in the vegetable drawer nearly a month after harvesting and assumed it would have long-since gone bad but was astonished to see that it was perfect!. My picky kids loved it. I recommend erring on the side of wider 8-10 inch spacing as narrow spacing necessitates quicker harvest. As the plants get large with crowded spacing, the earlier leaves will die at the soil surface and create opportunities for earthworms to start eating the radicchio heads. Radicchio is a great time saver for a lazy lettuce planter to get salad greens for a very long time without tedious replanting.
