Created in 1986 by Dr. William Woys Weaver via a controlled cross between the
heirloom varieties San Marzano and Yellow Brandywine, this is one of the most drought
tolerant of all the tomatoes in the Roughwood collection. Somewhat blocky and pear-
shaped, the fruit is fleshy and fragrant, an ideal low-acid sauce tomato for those who
cannot eat red tomatoes. A bush type, Golden Plum is also ideal for field culture since it
does not require support or staking.
