(Helianthus annuus) This seed came from a Russian woman who told Joe that she thought it was grown only for its good seed. It is unique in having only black seeds. The Russians use Sunflowers for a multitude of purposes even making Sunflower Halva with them. Originally sunflowers came from North America, however today Russia plants far more than we Americans do.

What are the pros? Hardy, great germination

What are the cons? Nothing.

Review:

These are some excellent sunflowers! Every seed I planted last year came up, and I only lost one plant to a freak summer storm. Weeds are nothing to these plants, but the songbirds like them a little too much. I harvested enough sunflower seeds that I had to give the rest to my chickens, who loved them just like the songbirds. I going to keep growing these for as long as I can. They also make great sunflower halva!

What are the pros? Vigorous grower, many flowers

What are the cons? Very variable plants

Review:

These grew great with no input in poor soil, dry summer with very wet spring, and surrounded by beans. Some had loads of flowers, others single stalks, and a few bent over probably because of the nitrogen from the beans. Will save seed from best and grow again.
