What are the pros? Colors

What are the cons? Exhausting upkeep

Review:

I've grown 4 o'clock for years now and never had issues with them. Easy, disease resistant plants for the most part with beautiful colors and fragrance (with the right variety). These were no exception, they germinated quickly and grew fast and strong. But when they bloomed they attracted Japanese beetles like no other plant I have ever grown before. I was outside every day killing at least 4 beetles a day for WEEKS. It was so exhausting and frustrating that I could no longer enjoy my garden because it became an overwhelming amount of work. And the beetles they attracted didn't ONLY eat these 4 o'clocks, they ate the flowers around them too. Eventually, I just had to cut them down so the beetles could leave my garden alone. Never growing this variety again.

What are the pros? Beautiful and abundant blossom

What are the cons? Didn't open until evening

Review:

I planted this beautiful flower in the summer of 2018, and it bloomed non-stop once it got going. No blossoms here in west-central Ohio until early July, but from then on they kept coming. I started them indoors but not way ahead. Outside, I planted one in nice potting soil in a good-sized planter, and it did bloom, but didn't get very large and eventually languished despite feeding. The four o'clocks I planted in the ground grew very large--about 2-1/2 to 3 feet tall and wide. The blossoms didn't open until 7 pm or so (and each blossom opened for just one day), but in the summer, that still gives plenty of time to enjoy them. If I had more garden space I would grow again, but I think I'll try something else new in 2019.

Review:

These were absolutely stunning! The look exactly like the picture, even better honestly. Every single seed I started germinated within days. I gave away most, as I only have a patio garden and could only keep 2. I planted them both in a large pot together and they literally grew to be as tall as me! They bloomed non-stop until October, I cut them back once when they started to slow down and they broke again and produced several more weeks of flowers. I saved all of the seeds and plan to plant to see what variety I get from them. I still have some of the original packet left, there were a ton of seeds! I plan to start those as well to hopefully get a nice mix. My parents planted theirs and they didn't get as large and bushy as mine did, but they had them in their garden where I planted them in rich potting soil so I would suggest feeding them heavily when you first transplant.
