(Mirabilis jalapa) True salmon-colored trumpets with a pale pink star at the center of each flower. A sophisticated addition to the garden. (Caution: Contact with skin may cause dermatitis in sensitive individuals. All parts of plant are toxic. Do not take internally.)

What are the pros? Color & Size

What are the cons? None

Review:

These were absolutely stunning! The look exactly like the picture, even better honestly. Every single seed I started germinated within days. I gave away most, as I only have a patio garden and could only keep 2. I planted them both in a large pot together and they literally grew to be as tall as me! They bloomed non-stop until October, I cut them back once when they started to slow down and they broke again and produced several more weeks of flowers. I saved all of the seeds and plan to plant to see what variety I get from them. I still have some of the original packet left, there were a ton of seeds! I plan to start those as well to hopefully get a nice mix. My parents planted theirs and they didn't get as large and bushy as mine did, but they had them in their garden where I planted them in rich potting soil so I would suggest feeding them heavily when you first transplant.

What are the pros? Good germination, robust plants

What are the cons? none

Review:

Seeds had good germination, plants were robust - larger and "huskier" than other four o'clock varieties I was growing at the same time, and flowers were slightly larger. Beautiful salmon color. The plants form large roots (like a parsnip or carrot) and in the fall after the plants were frosted, I dug them up and brought them in, stored them like dahlias, and replanted the following year when the weather warmed. They formed large plants really quickly and bloomed earlier. So - dig those roots if you want a head start the following year!

What are the pros? Easy to grow, prolific bloomer

What are the cons? None

Review:

I didn't rate 'Early Maturity' because I planted them late. Nevertheless, they did not disappoint. I put them out there and they grew on their own. Beautiful!

What are the pros? Fast growing bloom for months

What are the cons? None

Review:

I have gotten lots of compliments and inquiry's from neighbors in Toledo Ohio. They do best if given plenty of space per plant. They don't like weeds. Water a lot an fertilize every two weeks . I have had the mixed colors and the salmon for many years. Always a predictably easy and vigorous bloomer. Plants grow to about two feet tall and two feet wide. The size of a small shrub. Crowding or poor soil will cut a plants size and blooms down significantly.

What are the pros? beautiful

What are the cons? none

Review:

I just want to add that I have very sensitive skin (allergic to most soaps, lotions, and shampoos) and these flowering plants have not bothered me at all. So, don't let the skin sensitivity warning discourage you from trying these. As long as you don't roll around in them (i.e.--toddlers), you're probably going to be just fine.
