What are the pros? Telling the difference
What are the cons? Confusing different plants.
People are confusing Sesame Leaves (Perilla) with Sesame Seeds (Sesamum). They are a totally different plant. Sesame SEEDS are what tahini and Halwa candy are made from

What are the pros? Easy to start
What are the cons? late to mature
My community gardening neighbors have always grown this. After trying several dishes that they make I decided to give it a try. The plants were quick to come up and after a few weeks they needed very little care....just some watering and weeding. My neighbors taught me to use the leaves. The leaves make a delicious addition to salads and can be pickled. Look up Korean recipes if your sesame does not mature in your region for ways to use the greens!

What are the pros?
What are the cons?
Requires a long growing season. Planted outdoors June 1(germination was very good), produced pods by Sept 30 but seeds were not mature. I would suggest starting indoors in peat pots to have any chance of harvesting mature seeds.
