Very strong, clove-scented basil. This is a must for curry and all Thai cooking. This selection has beautiful flowers. Very tasty. This improved variety produces very large and lovely flower heads.

What are the pros? Really fast germination

What are the cons? None

Review:

Just received these last week, soaked then 2 days planted in Miracle Grow potting soil. They sprouted 2 days ago and it looks like 100% germination.

What are the pros? The stunning seedheads, great

What are the cons? none

Review:

Grew it this year. Planted it in pots and then town for 7 weeks. It thrived in the Tampa heat and rain, in a semi shaded area in a big pot. Grew about 2 ft tall. The seed heads were so lovely that I placed them in a flower boquet. The fragrance and taste are very intense, and it is great for any dish you use basil in. One of my all time faves.

What are the pros? Big leaves

What are the cons? None

Review:

I grow as many of these as I can, then in the fall I make tons of pesto. Put them in small freezer jars. I don't add garlic, so I can add it to whatever I want. Thai Pesto on pasta is simply incredible with some olive oil and lemon and garlic. A wonderful taste of Spring in the winter months.

What are the pros? Summer heat, and lots of it.

What are the cons? Cold weather.

Review:

I live in Phoenix, AZ, where summertime highs are well above 110 degrees. I have grown this basil here for several years. This basil will grow and produce in the hottest summer weather we have to offer, and if watered well it will grow well in the heat and full sun. Although it tolerates heat, it is not really drought tolerant, but likes a lot of water. It is very easy to collect seeds from dried flower clusters, and the seeds are very viable. It will reseed itself with ease. You can cut the man stem and it will grow side branches for successive cuttings. It is not as tall as some western basil, maybe 24 inches tall at the most. It will grow very well in medium sized pots, but likes a lot of water when the weather is hot. The flavor is your typical Thai basil flavor - strong clove/licorice like basil flavor. Excellent in soups or salads. I make pesto from this, though the taste is a bit stronger than pesto made with western basil.

What are the pros? Strongest smell of all basils

What are the cons? none

Review:

This is the best basil in the entire world! The scent is intoxicating and strong. The flavor is potent, and stands out in any dish. The flowers are magnificent and large, very beautiful. They go great in a vase next to a window, and most will take root in the vase offering a longer time you can keep them in the kitchen. I've never gotten excited over basil until I grew this gem. It's a MUST HAVE now after three years in my garden.
