Snow White Carrot

An attractive creamy-white carrot with a delicious, mild-sweet taste and a good crisp crunch. Roots grow 7”-8” long and are great raw or cooked. White carrots are again becoming popular with home gardeners and specialty growers after many years of neglect by the commercial seed trade. White varieties were common in the middle ages through the 19th century but then became scarce.

What are the pros? Interesting flavor

What are the cons? Not productive :(

Review:

Overall, these were disappointing. Short, thin, spindly carrot roots with enormous tops - but we didn't over-fertilize them. Neighboring carrots growing six inches over in the same bed had big, thick, healthy roots that were more than 9" long. The flavor that these carrots have is very unique, I love it, and roasting them in high heat with herbs makes for a delicious meal. But I wouldn't grow these again.

This is the second year in a row where a majority flowered the first year. The other five varieties I planted did not do so.

What are the pros? Attractive, good germination

What are the cons? taste.

Review:

These carrots came up well. But thats where the fun stopped. They never became well rounded, or filled out- yet were the correct length. And they tasted terrible- like spicy bark. But if you just want a pretty carrot for Instagram, this is for you.

What are the pros? More flavor than orange carrot

What are the cons? Little slow coming up

Review:

Tastes like 3 times the flavor of the regular orange carrots. Soft, crunchy and very flavorful. This carrot will surely become a staple in our garden now.

What are the cons? watch planting date

Review:

Snow White can be picked small or large and still have a pleasantly mild crunch and a licorice-like flavor. Here in northeast Ohio, I found the best times to plant Snow White to be in April or in late July. Otherwise, they went to seed during the summer heat and long days. Since I amended my soil to be sandy and light, these carrots grew long and straight. My friends and family liked them best of all of the heirloom carrots planted in 2014, which included Muscade, Dragon, and Cosmic Purple. (Only dark purple hybrids were more preferred.)
