Long day, 120 days. First released in 1873, and still one of the best. Firm fleshed, medium sized, globe-shaped, deep red roots are one of the best keepers of any red onion. Carries some resistance to fusarium rot. Truly a top-notch producer for the North!

What are the pros? sweetest of the red storage

What are the cons? none at all

Review:

The prettiest shape and color of all the reds I have grown. Always dependable for long storage. Very long storage. Sweet enough for all raw uses, and good cooked as well. Tends to bleed red coloring in cream soups. But I like pink potato soup! This is one very fine onion that should be grown in every garden or large cropping situation at least in my corner of the world I can highly recommend this variety.

What are the pros? Wonderful taste, stores well

What are the cons? none

Review:

The BEST onion I have ever grown! Taste is excellent, not too hot, but a little. Keeps a whole year with no problems in storage. Great in salads, sauteed, fried with stir fry.

What are the pros? Vigorous, taste, keep well

What are the cons? None

Review:

I agree with the other reviews, just a superb onion. I have planted this onion in a variety of areas in the growing space I have, and it has always come through for me. It keeps well and I had enough to almost hold me over from one growing season to the other. Amazing. I love the taste. I was intimidated at first to grow onions from seed, and when you plant the tiny grass size shoots, you think "no way is this going to grow big enough to harvest." But it does! In fact now I look forward to starting my onions in February because it is the first hope of Spring and a garden.

What are the pros? very easy and productive!

What are the cons? nothing

Review:

I'm from a middle 3 or 4 climate in Qu?bc/Canada (pretty in the north :) I'm completely satisfy!!! I have tried many other onion and I can tell you they are the best grower to start inside. At the begin of February, they grow fast with my little neon ligths. It's importan because without a grennhouse's light, onions often stay too much time with their delicate first leave and they often get damping-off. Finally they made udge onion juste like the 'Yellow of Parma' but these one are purple. A very vigorous and delicious plant.

What are the pros? easy to grow - low maintenance

What are the cons? none

Review:

These onions grew like a dream in my garden this past summer. They went out in the garden before the last frost and I started pulling them in August. They cured well and kept well also. These were very impressive. I will grow them again this year.
