What are the pros? direct sow; easy care
What are the cons? late to bloom
I planted these in 2016. These plants are fairly tall for marigolds and have nice long stems. The blooms are larger than the traditional marigold and the blooms are somewhat unique. I used the direct sow method the weekend after Mother's day and pretty much left the plants to do their thing. The flowers were late to bloom. The plant grew to full high before starting to make buds. This summer was cooler and wetter than other summers so that may have had an impact. You might want to consider starting seeds indoors if you want flowers earlier.
