Tender perennial usually grown as an annual. Very early, very dwarf (to 12”) plants cover themselves in the most incandescent flame red! Dazzling color is at its best in mass plantings, or when grown as a short “hedge” in the front of borders, blooming right up until frost. The bees, butterflies and hummingbirds love them too!

Review:

This is the most prolific bloomer I have ever come across in nearly 4 decades of gardening. I like all salvias for long-term blooming, but this one really takes the cake. It will start blooming as early as mid-May (probably earlier if I got around to starting the seeds sooner)and doesn't stop until the frost kills it. It is the first week of December and I still have some blooming in the garden (along with my Blue Monday sage). I don't know if I have ideal conditions for salvias or if they are just ideal flowering plants wherever they grow, but I will never be without them. Hummingbirds love the red ones and bees love the blue--people like them all. Stunning plants! They aren't as good at re-seeding themselves as I would like, but I save the seeds each year as a precaution so always have fresh ones.
