Pineapple Sage- perennial USDA 8-10 Salvia elegans is a perennial herb native to Mexico. A fantastic, fragrant hummingbird attractor. The tropical pineapple flavored leaves and flowers makes it an excellent tea plant. This delicious and beautiful aromatic sage is originally native to the high altitude Mesoamerican pine-oak forests. Widely adaptable, it grows easily in gardens across North America, in zones 6-7 it is considered a tender perennial that can survive winter if given protection, farther north growers can treat it as an annual or keep a plant indoors over winter until next spring. 3-4 feet tall and wildly attractive to pollinators. Plants prefer full sun and well drained soil, space 24-36 inches apart.
