(Talinum paniculatum). Also called fame flower or pink baby's breath, the name is borrowed from the Edgar Rice Burroughs novel Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar. It is most often grown for its highly ornamental tiny flowers and bright-colored seed pods. The leaves are edible -- a mild, slightly mucilaginous green similar to Malabar spinach. This tender succulent plant will perennialize in USDA zones 9-10.
