(C. maxima) This special variety originated in Southern India near Bangalore. It is a winter squash belonging to the Maxima complex along with Hubbard squash, bananas and the turban group. It is grown throughout southern India and has a wide following even in the middle east where it is regularly exported to. The fruits are flat, round and quite attractive, being unique to western eyes in shape; they average about 2 to 5 pounds in weight. The flesh is sweet and delightful. A wonderful squash that we believe we are the first to offer commercially in North America.
