Toothache Plant

(Spilanthes oleracea) Toothache plant is an annual member of the aster family. Native to South America, the flowers contain spilanthol, a natural chemical that has antibacterial and antifungal properties. It is considered a helpful remedy for canker sores, and for disinfecting wounds. It is an excellent bedding or container plant. Toothache plant prefers full sun and needs well-drained soil. Space plants 12-18 inches apart. Start indoors 6 to 8 weeks before last frost, or direct sow when the threat of frost has passed. Seeds germinate in 5-7 days. Ideal germination temperature is 70-78°F. Prefers full sun. Provide well-drained soil. Space plants 12-18 inches apart.
