An early, edible-pod pea ideal for small gardens. Its short, bushy vines do not need support, and it produces about 10 days earlier than other snap peas. Delicious pods are a joy sauteed, fresh or steamed. An AAS winner from 1984.

What are the pros? Abundance of peas!

What are the cons? None

Review:

Made the most of any snap peas I have ever grown. Climate here in South East Texas is iffy but this must have been a good year for these peas. I did put some low brush among them since high winds from approaching cool fronts can be high. I would highly recommend this variety.

What are the pros? Short and sweet, no stakes

What are the cons? none

Review:

Plant them close together and you won't need stakes. They were much sweeter than Tom Thumb variety I grew with my class. I think they'd do well in containers.

What are the pros? Sturdy plants, delicious pods

What are the cons? Prone to mildew

Review:

Sugar snaps are our favorite Spring veggie. I planted 18 seeds around a homemade 5' bamboo trellis. Germination was around 75%. Reseeded and all came up. Unfortunately, out of the 18 plants, only 5 were sugar snap. The rest were snow peas. The snow peas were tasty, but not what my family and I were looking forward to. So. Calif has a small window for growing peas, so reseeding was not an option.

What are the pros? Taste, abundance

What are the cons? none

Review:

These are so easy to grow and delicious. Very sweet. I eat the pods and peas in salads or alone. Honestly, these have a hard time making it from the garden into the house. I'm no pea girl, but these will be in my garden from now on!

What are the pros? High yield, early variety

What are the cons? None

Review:

We planted these when the risk of frost was starting to end. We were picking these in mid-June. That's early for here in Wisconsin. The pods are very tender to eat unless they are left on the vine too long. They continued to produce well into the 3rd week of July. Packaging says they don't need support, but I planted them in partial shade, so they got taller than usual. I was glad that I ran a few strings down the rows.
