(Satureja hortensis) Delicious peppery flavor that is popular in beans and many other dishes; also used medicinally.

Review:

I may have gotten my summer savory seeds from somewhere else, but this plant is awesome. Very easy to grow. Requires little water. Can use even after it blooms if you cut it into small bits and bake with it. It adds loads of lasagna-like umami flavor! Don't be afraid to use a lot of it. Vegans would love this stuff if they miss the taste of meat and cheese. It goes well with sliced Kikinda competition Strain edible gourds, baked, with sliced tomatoes, black pepper, Tajin seasoning, cayenne, parsley, avocado oil, and Aji Haba?ero peppers, baked at 500? F. in a 15" cast iron skillet for about 30 to 40 minutes, adding cheddar to the top when it's nearly done (if you tolerate cheese). Most of the lasanga-like flavor, I think, comes from the savory, but that mixed with the tomatoes and the lime from the Tajin seasoning, and the peppers, is really nice. I used lots of savory (and I mean lots). I was worried it would be fibrous after cooking, but it wasn't. The lower stems are a little.

Review:

Grew this because I needed Savory for my herbs de provence and couldn't find any in the stores. Grows like a weed (zone 6a) and tastes yummy (a mix of oregano and pepper). 3 seeds germinated with direct sow and now I have enough for the entire town. Wonderful herb to try out if you have never had it.

What are the pros? Tasty, attractive plant

What are the cons? Annual plant

Review:

Germinates well, grows quickly and vigorously. Has not been bothered by deer or rabbits in my garden. Has a great flavor reminiscent of black pepper, especially when dried. The plants are an interesting open shape with narrow leaves, and I enjoy drying the entire plant. It even makes a nice wall decoration when dried.
