Sweet Passion Melon

An Ohio heirloom that has been grown since the 1920s. According to legend, the sweet orange flesh is said to cause a state of passion if eaten straight from the garden on a moonlit summer night. It has succulent flesh that is very sweet, aromatic and very finely flavored. Fruit weighs 3-4 lbs, and are produced on vines that have some drought and wilt resistance.

What are the pros? intense flavor

What are the cons? not sure yet

Review:

I gave these melons horrible circumstances due to a seedling error. they started a month late in what is effectively a two-month summer so I put them in a Kratky hydroponic system and then went on vacation. I came back to two melons. left them on the plants until they died in fall due to powdery mildew. the melons are small about 1.2lbs due to my errors. they also lack a lot of the carotenoid that makes them orange. despite this, I was extremely surprised by how fragrant the melons were! they had more flavour than farm bought ones. I will definitely give them another shot with prime conditions!

What are the pros? Thin skin, sweetest melon

What are the cons? Didn't get as big as I'd like

Review:

This was my favorite melon that I grew this year. Best flavor, super sweet, thin skin and plenty of flesh. Mine only got to an average of a little over 2 lbs each. I'll definitely grow next but will trellis them and add support as needed.

What are the pros? Sweet and beautiful smell

What are the cons? Slow to produce

Review:

Started the seeds in March and had the first melon in July and now in late August they are producing like crazy! Small but beautiful melons with an aroma that fills the house. Beyond sweet and probably the best melon I have ever had! This will be a constant in my garden!

What are the pros? Flavor, easy to grow.

What are the cons? Not growing more, my fault.

Review:

The flavor is absolutely wonderful. So easy to grow and easy to tell when it's ripe. My only regret is not planting more to share. One of my new favorites!!! A must to grow in the garden!
