Annual. To 6-7 feet. An old Japanese variety, non-branching and grown for cut-flower use. Equally attractive in arrangements or in mass plantings in the garden. The tall, non-branching plants produce a single large flower in tones of yellow orange, chocolate and sable. Florists adore the 8- to 10-inch flowers!

What are the pros? Large flowers

What are the cons? Hard to start

Review:

I had a hard time starting these in the PNW. In comparison to Lemon Queen, Autumn Beauty and Mammoth Grey, the seedlings for these flowers were consistently weak and floppy and were especially prone to disease. I will continue growing them because the flowers are uniquely beautiful.

What are the pros? Easy to grow

What are the cons? None

Review:

Very tall, beautiful flowers. This year my flowers were covered with bees and attracted many yellow finches who really love the seeds. If you are trying to build a habitat around your garden, sunflowers are a great way to do it.

What are the pros? Looks like a gorgous bullseye.

What are the cons? none

Review:

I planted a few seeds with several other varieties of sunflower and these really stood out from the crowd. They have concentric rings of color, black in the center, a ring of bright green, then brown, then the bright yellow petals. Strong straight stalks. Lots of "wow" power.
