Annual. This cheery white denizen of cottage gardens since who-knows-when hardly needs an introduction! Tiny, snow-white flowers are produced by the hundreds on spikes reaching just a foot in height. The fragrance is just like honey! Tuck them at the edge of borders, or along walks. The small plants are also great in window boxes or in pots--anywhere their sweet scent may be savored!

What are the pros? easy and beautiful

What are the cons? plan ahead as it gets big

Review:

Bought these after previously planting the big box store varieties as an edge plant. This could not be more different! One plant can easily spread two feet wide and a foot tall. Very upright flowers that bring in tons of pollinators. Mine always takes off at the end of summer and stays blooming until nearly the frost. Will have to remind myself to plant farther away from the edge of my garden bed, as it's taking over my sidewalk this year! Very recommended.

What are the pros? Quick to bloom

What are the cons? None

Review:

I’ve planted this around in my vegetable garden to attract pollinators, and it has not disappointed. It came up and started blooming much faster than I anticipated. The sweet smell is a bonus. A real winner!

What are the pros? Easy to grow

What are the cons? A bit straggly later

Review:

This is definitely not your low mounding alyssum that you purchase from the big box stores. It is mid-September and this is easily a foot tall with tons of flowers. Attracts pollinators and beneficial insects like crazy and has helped my peppers thrive. Would be very pretty trailing in a planter or on the edges of a garden. I might try interplanting with herbs or another delicate flower next year, as it is not a super-dense plant when mature...plenty of space to have something growing in between the flowers. A definite win with this one!

What are the pros? Beautiful, bushy

What are the cons? I'm not a fan of the scent

Review:

These were very easy to grow from seed. I didn't think they'd do well after transplanting because they didn't do much growing for a couple of weeks, and then they took off! They've created a carpet of beautiful, maintenance-free plants that look gorgeous in my vegetable garden. What started as a few small plants now look like many large plants. The beneficial insects love these plants, too. It will definitely be a staple in my garden in future years.

What are the pros? Aroma is sweet and inviting!

What are the cons? Didn't buy enough seeds.

Review:

I planted this variety of sweet Alyssum in the crevices between my sidewalks and the cinder block wall of my home. My goal was to create beauty in a space that frequently grew weeds of all varieties. The Alyssum germinated quickly. The flowers provided months of fragrance that invited people into the garden as well as welcome people into our home! I plan to plant the entire length of our sidewalk next year!
