Temptation Strawberry

This British variety bears extra large, super scrumptious berries in abundance. This compact plant will produce berries in the first year from seed. Fruit is much larger than alpine varieties. These tidy plants are perfect in beds and containers; they do not readily set runners and remain tame, not prone to taking over the garden. Berries are more firm than alpine varieties; the flavor however, is much better than other large, commercial varieties.

Review:

I just ordered these and am looking forward to getting these going. I thought I'd share some info regarding this breed I found on another site. It said that these strawberry plants should be cold-treated before planting. Cold-treating simply involves placing the seed in an airtight bag or container and putting the seeds in your freezer for two to four weeks to simulate a winter's exposure. When you remove the seeds from the freezer, leave them in the bag or container without opening for several hours to let them slowly get back to room temperature before planting. I can only assume that this basically tricks the seed into thinking that winter has just ended and it's time to sprout as would normally happen with seeds in the wild.

What are the pros? Easy to germinate

What are the cons? None

Review:

This is my first time growing strawberries from seed. Of course, the seeds are extremely small, so use caution when opening the packet. I sprinkled the seeds over pre-moistened soil, and within two weeks the seeds started germinating. I will give another update once the true leaves sprout.
