The traditional French variety is very rare outside of Europe. Solid, deep-red heads are of good quality and are mostly grown as an autumn variety in France.

What are the pros? Tight firm heads, quick growth

What are the cons? Poor germination

Review:

Very poor germination compared to all other cabbage varieties I started. Started indoors and germ rate at room temp was around 20% and those that did germinate did slower than other varieties. Not sure if it was a bad batch or just the variety. However, once transplanted and established in the fall (October) cabbage formed leaves quickly and filled out before winter. Over wintered just fine with no mulch (lowest temp of the winter was 20 F) and formed a firm, tight head by March. Flavor was excellent raw and good pickled.

What are the pros? The Color

What are the cons? Did not form heads

Review:

I planted this cabbage around September in my zone 9B garden. It just never took off. The growth seemed stunted when other cabbages and broccoli did fine. I am not sure if I did something wrong, but I will try a few more times to see if I have success, and will report back.

What are the pros? Just plain did well.

What are the cons? None

Review:

Western Lower Michigan. Planted late for a late fall crop - direct seeded in the garden. This grew better than I expected. A fine, productive, tasty red cabbage. Heads split - but I lagged badly in harvesting it.

What are the cons? none

Review:

This grew beautifully, made the MOST excellent cole slaw.......looked beautiful. kept well in fridge. Had no bugs, as compared with the green cabbage that got some worms. Excellent. Likely our favorite.
