What are the pros? Unique variety, pretty fruit

What are the cons? Small fruit = more husking!

Review:

I'm on to my second season of growing these. I had great germination year one, and I'm at about 60% germination this year. Overall, they behave like, well, tomatillos: plants grow large, require little attention, and prefer to be in the ground or a large raised bed. I'm only half joking about the peeling. The fruit last year were marble size. Compared to a larger variety you're in for double the husk removal, which can be time consuming. I'm growing this again, because I like the flavor and color in food--but I've cut back the number of plants.....

Review:

I had a perfect season for tomatillos here in the Hudson valley this year, very dry and very hot. I was a little late in transplanting these so they are just ripening now in early September. The taste is incredible. Very savory, unlike anything I have ever had-I was so surprised with the first taste of one. The plants grew about 6 feet high and are loaded with fruit. I have been harvesting them like ground cherries mostly so far, they seem to be more purple that way and also if they go on a sunny window sill for a few days the purple comes. Very different and unique fruit! They will be great for salsa or sauce.

What are the pros? A very beautiful plant

What are the cons? none

Review:

I grew about 8 of these plants. grew three outside and 5 in my grow den. When grown in a grow den, this plant stays small. However, when grown outside it can get over 6 feet high. It also matures faster outside. It may take awhile to start producing fruit but when it does, it grows a lot of them. The fruit is slightly bigger than a dime, sometimes smaller. I have not had any ripen yet, I will update my review when I have had the chance to try some.

What are the pros? Germination

What are the cons? fruit development in my graden

Review:

I had no luck with these tomatillos. I have grow other tomatillos in the past and was drawn to these because of the color and catalog description. I was able to grow the plants but the plant did not develop tomatillos this last year. I will try again this year but am only planting a couple plants because I do not want to lose valueable garden space to a plant that may not set fruit again. Disappointed with this one. I am aware however that not all plants work in all climates and this does not mean it is a bad plant it just may not be fit for my garden. I would not discorage anyone from growing this seed because I had bad luck. Growing new foods is always an experiment and always worth doing. It is part of the fun of gardening!

What are the pros? N/A

What are the cons? Germination

Review:

Sadly, not a single one of these seeds germinated. I started them indoors alongside purple tomatillos and other goodies purchased from Baker Creek. All the others sprouted, but not a single one of these little guys did...
