Description

(Solanum lycopersicum). A gorgeous saladette tomato that glitters and shines, with superb flavor to boot! Bred by Artisan Seeds, this 2 to 2.5-inch-long cocktail-type tomato has become a standout favorite in our trials. The slightly crunchy texture, eye-catching “blushed” color, and perfectly balanced, sugary flavor put it into a different class entirely. A gourmet choice for market gardeners or anyone with a hankering for a phenomenal tomato! One of the first tomatoes we eat out of the garden.

Growing Tips

Blush Tiger tomatoes are well-suited for both garden beds and large containers. They prefer full sun and nutrient-rich, well-draining soil. In colder climates, consider using a heat mat to help warm the soil and speed up germination.  Learn More >>

When to Grow

Begin seeds indoors 6-10 weeks before the last expected frost. For most regions, transplant outdoors once the frost risk has passed and temperatures consistently stay above 50 F. This variety can handle warm summer conditions well, making it ideal for USDA Zones 4-9.

How to Sow and Plant

Sow seeds about 1/8 inch deep in a seed-starting mix. Keep the soil warm, at least 75 F, until germination, which usually takes 7-14 days. Once seedlings have their first set of true leaves, transplant them into larger pots before moving them outdoors, spacing plants about 24 inches apart for good airflow.

How to Grow

Blush Tiger tomatoes require regular watering, especially during hot weather, but they are fairly resistant to cracking. A deep layer of organic mulch helps retain soil moisture and keeps the roots cool. Regular feeding with a balanced fertilizer supports their continuous fruiting. Due to the plant’s heavy yields, staking or caging is recommended to prevent branches from breaking under the weight of the fruits.

How to Save

  • Most tomatoes are self-pollinating and crossing isn’t likely; separating by 25 feet is sufficient for pure seed, except for the potato-leaf varieties like Brandywine.
  • On a small scale, seeds may be scooped from the fruits and dried on a paper towel.
  • For larger quantities or cleaner seeds, fermentation for 1-2 days is recommended.
  • Once dry, tomato seed can be stored in a cool, dry, dark place; good seed retains viability for 5 years or more.

FAQ

How often should Blush Tiger tomatoes be watered?
These tomatoes prefer consistent moisture, especially in containers, where daily watering may be necessary during hot weather.

What kind of fertilizer works best for Blush Tiger tomatoes?
A balanced, slow-release fertilizer or compost tea applied every 2-3 weeks will help support growth and fruiting.

Are Blush Tiger tomatoes suitable for container gardening?
Yes, they grow well in large containers, though they will need support like a cage or stake due to their indeterminate, vining habit.
