(Curcuma longa). Your order includes 3 plants. Turmeric is a wonderful culinary spice that is also an important part of Ayurveda and other forms of Indian and Asian traditional medicines. This close relative to ginger is easily grown indoors, outdoors during summer, or under glass. Harvest the roots for fresh, homegrown turmeric. It is also a beautiful plant; allowed to grow, turmeric yields lovely white blooms. It needs at least eight months of hot, humid weather for best production. Turmeric contains cucurmin, a polyphenol that has been extensively studied for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Most plants will be 3” to 7” in height. Please make sure you are ready for your order in your zone as these young, tender plants generally have no resistance to cold.

Growing Tips, Tricks and FAQs

Growing Tips

Yellow turmeric thrives in tropical and subtropical climates with warm temperatures and high humidity. Plant in nutrient-rich, well-draining soil, and water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist. Container growing is a great option in cooler zones. Protect from strong winds and provide afternoon shade in especially hot climates. Feed with a balanced organic fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the active growing season for robust rhizome production.

When to Grow

Plant yellow turmeric in spring after the danger of frost has passed when the soil is consistently above 70°F. In tropical regions, it can be planted year-round. In cooler regions, begin indoors and transplant after the last frost. Long growing seasons are ideal. How to Sow and Plant

Choose a site with dappled sunlight and nutrient-rich, well-draining soil. Plant rhizomes 2-4 inches deep with the buds facing upward. Space plants 12-18 inches apart to allow for growth and airflow. Water thoroughly after planting and maintain consistent moisture, ensuring the soil does not become waterlogged.

How to Grow

Water turmeric regularly to keep the soil moist but not saturated. Apply organic mulch to maintain soil moisture and suppress weeds. Fertilize every 4-6 weeks with a balanced, organic fertilizer. In cooler regions, move container-grown turmeric indoors before the first frost. Rhizomes are ready to harvest in 8-10 months when the leaves begin to yellow and die back.

How to Save

  • Divide mature rhizomes in spring or early summer.
  • Select firm, healthy sections with at least one growth bud.
  • Let cut surfaces dry for 1–2 days before planting in moist, well-draining soil
  • Keep the environment warm and humid.
  • Maintain consistent moisture without overwatering.
