Barley (Hordeum Vulgare). Cats love a number of different grasses when they're in the mood for such things, but our barley is variegated in green and white stripes so it's a treat for the eye as well! A dish of grass for your feline companion can save a lot of wear and tear on your houseplants, and is much healthier for your cat as well.

What are the pros? Fast and easy

What are the cons? None

Review:

Good germination, seeds sprouting within a week and the impatient kitties can't wait to eat them! Have to grow two separate pots for alternation as the cats would dig them up if they become too short to chew on. Glad to see the kitties enjoy them :) The green and white mix looks special too.

What are the pros? Cat loves it, pretty

What are the cons? None, really.

Review:

I would never leave this out for my cat as he would just eat it all st once. Instead, I use it to train him and as a treat. It also helps him get exercise because he will chase me all over the house if he knows I have a piece. It’s very pretty. Enough for 2-3 medium sized batches. Would buy again.

What are the pros? Easy to grow, grows quickly

What are the cons? None

Review:

I couldn't grow this stuff fast enough for my 6 cats! I grew it last summer and it was really hot here (112? F) so keeping it in small plant containers was not the best idea. The grass got fried a few times so I tried growing it indoors... But the cats knocked the container over and got dirt everywhere (I even found little dirt trails where they had dragged it off), but they always ate the cat grass! Eventually I tried growing it on a sponge like cheap hydroponics and that solved the dirt problem. But I still couldn't grow it fast enough! It is pretty hardy and very easy to grow.

What are the pros? Any container, any medium

What are the cons? None

Review:

Our three cats love eating leaves off almost any plant indoors or on the porch, but as long as they have abundant barley (this one in particular), they leave the other plants alone. Loki (age 13) actually meows—whines, really—for it if there's not enough or if he can't get to it. We actually ended up with a ton of grass in our jade plants after some seeds fell into the pots from our neighbors porch above. It was providential! As long as there is cat grass in the pot, the cats don't eat the other plant. I've started adding cat grass to any indoor plant the cats might otherwise chew on.

What are the pros? easy and quick to grow

What are the cons? cat still prefers my palm tree

Review:

It sprouted quickly and grew well even in a non-ideal spot (north facing windowsill). My kitty likes it, but she still likes my palm tree better.
