In fact, this delicate-looking flower is one of the most heat- and drought-tolerant blooms we have seen! The compact plants reach about 8 inches tall and 8 to 12 inches wide. They will soldier through intense heat and humidity and can tolerate full sun. Excellent in pots, beds, borders, and planted en masse.

Growing Tips, Tricks and FAQs

Growing Tips

Heatwave Apricot vinca prefers full sun to partial shade. For best results, plant it in well-draining soil. Adding compost to the soil can help improve its fertility and drainage. This vinca doesn’t require much maintenance, making it an excellent choice for beginner gardeners.

When to Grow

Start Heatwave Apricot vinca indoors 8-10 weeks before the last frost. Transplant outdoors after the last frost when the soil has warmed. Plants will flower all summer long without deadheading.

How to Sow and Plant

Sow seeds about 1/4 inch deep in seed-starting mix. Keep the soil moist and maintain a temperature of 75-80 F while seeds germinate. Transplant seedlings outdoors, spacing them 9-12 inches apart when they have their first true leaves and all danger of frost has passed.

How to Grow

Water Heatwave Apricot vinca moderately, allowing the soil to dry between watering. Overwatering can lead to root rot and other issues. A balanced, slow-release fertilizer can be applied at planting and periodically throughout the growing season. These plants do not require deadheading to continue blooming.

How to Save

  • Pinch seed pods off after flower petals drop and pods become brown in color.
  • Let the pods dry in a paper bag.
  • When the pods have dried, pop them open to remove the seeds.
  • Store in a cool, dry, and dark place until you are ready to plant.

It prefers full sun but can grow in partial shade. Ideally, it should receive at least 6-8 hours of sunlight daily.

Is Heatwave Apricot vinca suitable for containers?
Yes, it can be grown in containers. Use a well-draining potting mix, and choose a container that has drainage holes to prevent waterlogging.

Can Heatwave Apricot vinca be grown in cooler climates?
