What are the pros? Stores well
What are the cons? Taste could be a bit better
I have grown these for a three years running and it is a keeper. I have experimented with others, such as Ailsa Craig and assorted white onions, and this has the huge advantage of keeping well after it is picked (providing you dry it well). I have found that it really does need full sun, and if there is even partial shade it will only grow a little bit bigger than the size of a golf ball. My only complaint, and the reason I keep trying out other onions as well, is that the flavor is pretty basic. It will beat the stuff you find in grocery stores, but if you are looking for a richer onion taste then it pays to have some other varieties that may not store as well.
It is Jan and the ones I stored for winter are still doing great.
