(C. moschata) This amazing flat squash from China is causing quite a stir. The fruits possess amazing eye appeal—burnt-orange to chestnut-brown skin, covered in a waxy bloom. Each 3- to 8-pound fruit is incredibly deeply ribbed and most unusual of all is the way the top of each fruit dramatically recurves toward the stem, sometimes completely enfolding it. The orange flesh is sweet and of very high quality. Use in soups, purées, cakes, and sweet dishes of all types. They are great keepers, too, easily lasting 3-4 months. One of the most intriguing squashes we offer, and a new favorite here. We found seeds for this most beautiful variety from a Chinese seed seller, who had a small stand setup in Fang, Thailand. The most interesting squash we have found in years!s

I am growing this again and wanted to leave some feedback. It's tasty and easy to grow, the large fruit even hang if the vine starts to climb. Review:

Loved, loved, loved this squash. It got a lot of comments from those looking for a unique decorative squash and when we ate one...omg...now one of my all time favorites. Made the best pumpkin pie I've ever had. Seems to be a long keeper and did not have any problems with rot in the field or after picking. Will keep growing!

Review:

I have never grown anything that produces like this and I have been gardening for 35 years. I planted 4 hills and thinned to three plants per hill. Vine borers attacked the plants at their base but that was not a problem because the vines re-rooted along their entire length. The only thing that seemed to stop them was that when they got to the yard I mowed them off. They produced so many squash that I started giving them away to my friends and my church. I then began piling them in varying degrees of maturity along the road with a free sign on them. I ended up giving away about 200 squash! I ate some and still have about a dozen stored for winter. The flesh is firm, dry and slightly sweet. They also seem to store well.
