What are the pros? Easy growing, great texture

What are the cons? Moderate/low yield

Review:

This eggplant has a great taste, thinner skin, and great smooth texture. Its fruit size is smaller, only reaching 5-6" in my run with it this year. If you want quantity, you will need a few more plants than usual. However, it is worth the extra space dedicated to it. If picked prior to it reaching developing a gray or silverish sheen to the skin, its texture and flavor are tremendous. I have really enjoyed this eggplant and plan to grow it each year unless and unlikely competitor beats it out in future trials. If you are a fan of eggplant, try a few plants next season. (If you want yield, look to the variety Aswad (=black in various Arabic languages) which is also sold at Baker Creek.

What are the pros? took strange weather in stride

What are the cons? none.

Review:

This one is a survivor. Our weather has been either too dry and unseasonably hot, to cold and flooding. These plants keep hanging on, and when the sun shines, they go right back into bloom. Magical in their transformation to striped fruit. I planted this close to the kitchen for good reason...tasty, great texture and more.

What are the pros? early, prolific, huge plants

What are the cons? none

Review:

Last year was a banner year for eggplants. I grew a dozen varieties with Bangladeshi Long being one of the 3 earliest. It has an excellent eggplanty flavor with nice thin skin, produces lots of eggplants that are slow to make seed, and was the tallest plant topping out at 5 feet. Interesting thing about this eggplant, the fruit starts out purple and as it grows longer it turns green with purple striping. In my experience cool weather early on can stunt eggplant seedlings, so covering them with a floating row cover or vented plastic containers the first couple weeks can really help plants get established.
