What are the pros? Beautiful color green*
What are the cons? Ants LOVE it; sunbleaches
I have grown these for 3 years in a row. These flowers are absolutely beautiful...when you can get one that isn't the neon yellow other people are describing. I've noticed that my prettiest green flowers are hidden behind and under the neon funky ones that ants just devour (more than any of my other zinnias!) This has led me to believe that the green color gets sun-bleached into the neon yellow. If you can grow this zinnia as tightly together as possible or maybe even in a semi-shaded area, you'll have SOME beautiful blooms. It also paid off to cut my blooms ruthlessly (which was easy to do with ant-covered neon yellow ones). Actually, I also learned that the ants are not eating the zinnias...aphids are...and the ants are eating the aphids. If you can control your aphids, you should have fuller (non-chewed) blooms for all of your zinnias.
