Old Austrian heirloom, the name means "speckled like a trout"; a superb, gorgeous romaine lettuce that is highly splashed in deep red. Very beautiful and tasty.

What are the pros? Crisp, tasty, beautiful

What are the cons? none

Review:

This pretty lettuce really dresses up a salad. Crispy, tangy, and easy to grow. Needs loose soil, with some compost mixed in. I grow it outside in spring and summer & transplant to greenhouse for winter. We are still eating salads with this lettuce this winter.

Beautiful, unique. Delicate flavor, sweet with mildly bitter aftertaste. My favorite lettuce.

What are the pros? Tasty, pest resistant

What are the cons? Slow to grow in cold weather

Review:

I grew this in my little lean-to greenhouse in Portland after starting inside in coco pots. It's stayed alive in temperature ranges between 40 and 80. Attractive and mild flavored, which makes it great to bring along to a dinner party.

Review:

This lettuce germinated well, grew well (even with no pesticides or fertilizers at all) . This lettuce did great in the dry heat of Denver Colorado (2012). This lettuce kept producing new leaves that were delicious, crisp, and cool looking (This picture does not do it justice. look up other pics of it to see what I mean ). This is my favorite lettuce.
