(Lycopersicon lycopersicon) This is probably one of the best of the Victorian-era yellow tomatoes. We acquired our seed in 1984 from the late Betsy Gotshall Kulp, a produce vendor and country store keeper in Harleysville, Pennsylvania. Developed in the 1870s by George M. Keasey of Mt. Wolf, Pennsylvania, this sweet, golden yellow tomato is now considered a Pennsylvania Dutch classic. The 3 inch diameter fruit is used to make yellow tomato-and-peach soup, peach-and-tomato pies, and peach-and-tomato preserves. It is extremely productive as a mid-season tomato and has generally exhibited a resistance to early blight.

What are the pros? Fantastic taste

What are the cons? water hog

Review:

I grew these in containers. The tomato was very productive. The taste was fantastic. My only complaint was I didn't realize how much water it needed. I watered them for the normal tomatoes and didn't think about them being Heirlooms. Something clicked in June and I stepped up the watering and they went wild with blooms and tomatoes. I was very pleased with them. I had 100% germination from the seeds so anyone purchasing might want to take that into account. I ended up giving my sister 19 plants.

What are the pros? Excellent germination, robust

What are the cons? What's not to like?

Review:

This was my first year growing the Golden Juniata. Germination was 100%, very healthy plants, earliest to ripen. Lovely mild tomato, not too acid. I am growing them in three-gallon pots and they take to it quite well.

What are the pros? easy to grow, sweet flavor

What are the cons? very thick tough skins

Review:

Wow, what an awesome little tomato. This year has been rough for midwest tomatoes...the rain and lack of hot westher has really slowed production of most of my plants. This tomato was the first one to set on and ripen, and it seems like a hardy plant. The tomatoes are super sweet, and I can't wait to try them with peaches, as suggested.
