Flavorful, gray-speckled peas in large pods; very early and perfect for the North. From a market in Palapye, Botswana. Rare.

What are the pros? Resistant and prolific

What are the cons? Hard to find info about these

Review:

I finally discovered that these do NOT vine/climb so trellising doesn't help. The plants grow similarly to soybeans in that regard. Plant several weeks after winter frost. I found that these are far less cold hardy than corn or tomatoes. Even when they did come up, they sat stagnant until mid June-early July (last frost was early May this year). This summer has been incredibly hot (avg mid 90s) but they are loving it and doing great. They don't seem to be bothered with our terrible bindweed infestation or a rogue squash vine which invaded their space.

Review:

These were fantastic little cowpeas! They grew easily and were loaded with pods. The size and flavor is delicate and perfect for a number of dishes. I'll be planting these again and again!

Review:

We had never planted cow peas before. We tried the Gray-Speckled Palapye Cowpea along with the Penny Rile & Stick Up. What a pleasant experience. All 3 varieties were loaded! They make a great soup bean. They taste similar to a black eyed pea. Will plant again!
