A beautiful, long, slender Japanese variety that produces fruit up to 16” long. Beautiful, glossy purple skin, with pure white flesh that’s sweet and mellow tasting. Great for home or market.

What are the pros? Phenomenal taste and texture

What are the cons? Nothing

Review:

At least in our area, these are not the easiest plants to grow - they take a long time to mature, must be hand-pollinated in really hot, humid weather if you want the fruit to set, and flea beetles will mow them down if you don't take some sort of preventative measure. (We found that the easiest thing to do was to grow them in pots placed about 3' above the ground. Zero flea beetle problems. However, the ones at ground level got so ravaged that they died. At least the flea beetles have good taste, I guess?) But it's totally worth it! Big, sweet, meaty, gorgeous fruits that keep well and cook well. No bitterness at all - these taste complex and sweet, just a joy to eat, you barely have to prep them - throw them on the grill and maybe salt them. They're worlds away from grocery store eggplants. Also the plants themselves are beautiful!

What are the pros? Resistant, strong

What are the cons? none

Review:

These seem unaffected by Fusarium and Verticillium wilts and tolerated being submerged under five feet of river water. Tolerant of flooding and pests don't bother them much, the few that do are easily controlled. Its often used a lot in Indian dishes and very popular. I regret not planting more of the Japanese pickling and it will be a bulk crop for next year. Recommend it to people often and will defiantly buy again.

Review:

Disappointed in this plant. Planted these in GA (outside of Atlanta). I sprayed everything organic I could get my hands on to keep the flea beetles under control but had no luck. The flea beetles won the battle. : (

Review:

This is a beautiful eggplant, easy to grow from seed. Large, beautiful plants with purple tinge love a southern exposure. I planted mine in an east-west row on the south side of the bed so they got full sun. Fruit is long and glossy. My best eggplant experience so far!
