90 days. Large 8’-10’ vines yield very LARGE white lima beans and give huge yields over a long season. An heirloom from 1883, introduced by Frank S. Platt. An old-fashioned favorite, excellent for home gardeners.

What are the pros? They are vigorous!

What are the cons? none

Review:

So this was my first year growing Lima Beans. I Was unaware of how strong they are. They are under heavy pest pressure(Aphids/Mites/Ants)and they just keep going and growing. I am suprised that they are a vigorous as they are. The green beans/peas/soup beans I had planted got wiped out cold but this variety just keeps going. not sure howw they taste yet butif they are good this will be a staple in my garden from now on.

What are the pros? Largest, tastiest Lima

What are the cons? Slow to mature

Review:

I'm going in to my 5th year of growing "King of the Garden", I believe I have their character down pat. It's true, it will take it's own sweet time maturing, however, the late producing vines can be magnificent . Usually pods of three to five very large beans. Zone 7 (Atlanta).

What are the pros? Taste

What are the cons? Sporadic yield

Review:

After growing these for several seasons, I am still trying to figure them out. First, they grow wonderful. I have a 8 foot tall cedar trellis which gets completely covered in the vines in a short amount of time. However, the beans are late to set. I plant these in spring, usually around the 2nd-3rd week of May in zone 6b. I have never had any beans to harvest earlier than late september. I get the largest harvest around halloween. Aside from that, these are the single most delicious bean I have ever eaten. The beans are huge, some larger than a quarter. A quick boil and dressed with some butter and pepper is my idea of a real garden treat. I grow over 100 varieties of vegetables each year and my friends and family always want to know, "if I grew the giant beans this year"? Of course I did, i just try not to let anyone else know....

What are the pros?

What are the cons?

Review:

Didn't grow beyond a few inches tall. Only one plant podded. I think it may need a richer soil. Zone 9, cool summer.
