55 days. From our Polish grower, who recommends ‘Monika’ for pickles. This one is parthenocarpic, which simply means it doesn’t need pollination to set fruit. However, seed production can be achieved by hand pollination or by introducing pollinators. This is great news to gardeners who find they do not have sufficient local bee populations to pollinate regular cucumbers. It also means you can grow pickling cukes under glass. Makes a nice slicer as well.

What are the pros? Not much to like here

What are the cons? Poor producer; not for pickles

Review:

Planted these along my favorites Boston and National. Germination and growth were excellent. Plants were healthy but lacked vigor. Lots of flowers, visited daily by many bee species but did not produce well. Fruit non-uniform with a very thin skin which did not stand up to rigors of the pickling crock. Thought I would try pickling them by directly canning them as cold-pack marinated pickles but had to abandon the idea since they did not produce nearly enough. Will have to look for a suitable specimen for my cuke crop rotation elsewhere.

What are the pros? early; taste; parthenocarpic

What are the cons? See review

Review:

I grew these in the ground in 2016. They were one of the top two cucumbers I had ever grown in our garden to date (the other favorite is Beit Alpha). Cucumbers seem to struggle a lot in our soil. So, I looked for parthenocarpic, heat-tolerant and drought-tolerant varieties in hopes of better results. Monika is of course parthenocarpic (it also seems at least partially gynoecious, as it set lots of female flowers to start with, with no male ones in sight). Monika also proved able to set fruit in the heat. As far as cucumbers go in our soil, it was prolific, but it still struggled in our soil and/or weather. It was an early producer (the earliest I've grown), but it stopped producing before Beit Alpha. It did, however, taste great even when mature (no bitterness). Most of the fruits were seedless, but I did manage to save some seeds. I think some acclimatization will do them good. The young fruits look a lot like the mature ones in coloring.

What are the pros? Small size

What are the cons? Powdery mildew

Review:

These were good producers and I did get some pickles put up and ate quite a few fresh in salads, but they succumbed to powdery mildew in early August and I removed the plants. I haven't had this problem before so I'll probably try to grow resistant varieties in the future.

What are the pros? Great for pickling

What are the cons? none

Review:

This cucumber produce a plentiful crop, I was amazed as I raised the vine cucumbers are everywhere. It's like the produce in a cluster form. I will definitely plant these again and suggest them to other gardeners who are looking for a great yield. I planted 6 different types of cucumbers in my garden here at home and this one produced twice as many as the others so far.
