What are the pros? Does well in the south

What are the cons? none

Review:

This is a rich tasting spinach which is easy to grow. The plants are smaller than Bloomsdale, but sometimes less is more. The Viroflay is surprisingly heat resistant. Our Bloomsdale Long-standing bolts long before the Viroflay. This has become a staple in our garden. We just love it.

What are the pros? Hardy, fast grower

What are the cons? none

Review:

I planted these neglectfully in summer last year. They sprouted quickly and survived transplanting without a hitch. Much to my surprise, as the sunlight waned and the cold crept in, they stayed bright green and alive. When frosts came night after night, they remained unfazed. Now that the light is increasing and it's becoming more and more mild in the North Bay, the leaves are growing enormously and at a rate with which I can barely keep up! Simply steamed with a wee touch of lemon is my favorite way to enjoy this perfect spinach. Not to disappoint!

Review:

We planted these late last summer, hoping for a late fall harvest. We ended up with a fantastic, huge and early 2012 harvest, due to the weird winter in MN this year. This weekend, we picked it all, to make way for other plantings, and are enjoying it in omelets and sandwiches. Love these big, thick leaves! Very tasty.

I direct sowed this spinach in February in my zone 8 Northern California garden and they were a bit slow to germinate and get going but once they did, wow. I started picking baby leaves about mid April and then the weather warmed up a bit here and boom, suddenly the plants are huge. Monstrueux indeed. So now I'm picking like crazy to use them before the heat sets in here. But no matter how big they get, the leaves are still tasty and tender. And since the leaves are mostly smooth, very little dirt or grit sticks to them so they are very easy to rinse and eat. I have never grown such yummy spinach, and couldn't be more pleased at my crop this spring. Too hot for them in the summer but I'll be planting these again in fall for sure.

with truly ginormous leaves. it's been taking the cleveland snow so far this winter and looks great. probably will have an ultra-early spring harvest as a result.
