What are the pros? Excellent flavor, low pests

What are the cons? Starting inside is hard

Review:

I LOVE this spinach. Tastes great, different from what you can get at the store, and grows vigorously and generates tons of leaves once established. Also, large leaves are not significantly less delicious than small leaves unless they are extra, extra old. However, getting it to work out was pretty tough. I live in coastal California, so my land is growing something every day out of the year - so I start everything inside before I put it out. Spinach is always a little bit finnicky to start in an artificial climate, but I had to do the following this time to get optimal results: 1) Started seeds in a wet paper towel inside a plastic bag inside my wine fridge - Getting them to germ over 60F was not happening at all, not even slowly. Very quickly germinated at 55. 2) I over-exposed them to grow light durations indoors and triggered bolting after only 2 or 3 true leaves. They thought it was summer I guess. I thought I could cheat and get some growth - guess not. Stick to 11 hrs

What are the pros? Fat round leaves, slow to bolt

What are the cons? none

Review:

This variety is the one I've been looking for! Many other varieties have narrow, pointy leaves without much substance. The Viroflay keeps perfect oval leaves that are fat, flavorful and juicy! Perfect for markets. Another added feature is that they are slower to bolt (I did have them planted in partial shade though) and easy keepers. Even after bolting, the leaves still grow thick and plentiful for plucking as baby spinach. I was neglectful in watering during a hot and dry summer and they still performed well. This will be my go to for perfect, uniform spinach from now on.

What are the pros? Quick Easy Tasty

What are the cons? Aphid hideout

Review:

LOVE this spinach. It's holding well in early heat, germinated quickly and easily, and is very very tasty. My only complaint, and that is for almost any spinach, is that base of the stems get super ridged and aphids hide out in there. Easy fix, with thorough neem applications, DE and washing. Worth that little bit of effort in return for good yields and ease of growth and flavor. Will buy again this fall.

What are the pros? Easy to grow, great taste

What are the cons? leaves almost too big!

Review:

First time gardener and these took off in my 6b garden. The leaves got HUGE, and the flavor was meaty and delicious. Even people who profess to dislike spinach salads loved it when I included these in my lettuce mix. Will definitely be growing again next year.

What are the pros? Hardy and amazing tasting

What are the cons? Bolted somewhat fast

Review:

I planted this spinach in my garden in October. We had an incredibly cold winter and it lived under the snow and wind etc. We had amazing spinach all fall-spring long! It was so prolific that I ended up with a few trash bags full for freezing. If there's any negative it's that it bolted faster than what I was expecting.
