70 days. A tasty romaine-type. Uniform heads are pale cream-green inside, and the outside is dark green. Developed around 1949; named after Parris Island, off the East coast.

What are the pros? Very good tasting, fast growin

What are the cons? None

Review:

This is my second year growing this. Last fall I planted this lettuce but I had it too crowded. Even yet it grow all winter and I was able to transplant, with more space, in the spring. It did very well. I seeded it again this September and now (Oct. 27), I have nice heads forming. It grew much faster than the bibb lettuce I seeded at the same time. Very good tasting, fast growing, and winter hardy. Highly recommend.

What are the pros? Tasty and productive

What are the cons? none

Review:

I was excited to grow romaine for the first time since we are big time caesar-salad eaters. We had more than enough with just two small rows from this variety, and as noted in another review, I could cut an entire head down to the ground and it would send out multiple shoots to replace it. I also noticed that the deer, slugs, and bugs strangely left it alone while they devoured my other lettuces. Next year I'm going to do some succession planting with this one.

What are the pros? Great taste, easy to grow

What are the cons? N/A

Review:

We were amazed with this lettuce, I searched the web and didn't see where people were eating the leaves and also letting it grow tall and go to seed but the top 2 feet of growth has PERFECT sized leaves and are delicious!! Just keep letting it grow and you'll be surprise how much more you'll get from this single plant. I keep snipping of the seed heads and eating the smaller top leaves. If you're also lucky and cut the head off and leave a couple inches of stalk it will regrow entire new side shoots that will also grow tall. UNBELIEVABLE plant!! I highly recomend it. Grows great through cold spring weather and almost July 1st and we still have green edible plats.

What are the cons? didn't survive

Review:

Perhaps it's my cool location? These had a really poor germination rate, and none survived transplant when my other types did. I might try one more time just to make sure it's not me - and perhaps when there is more heat here.

Review:

I grow this here along the South Carolina coast, near Parris Island. It's great to have native lettuce here! Easy grower. Good flavor. It holds out way longer in the southern summer heat and humidity than most other types.
