A flavorful, small tomato from our friend Herb Culver. He collected this tomato in Cuba from a man named Orlando at Mission Mundial. This tomato also is said to have a very high beta-carotene content. Tasty, red fruit grow on very productive plants. Image provided by www.abundantacres.net

What are the pros? none

What are the cons? It tastes awful

Review:

I made the mistake and started 3 of these in my garden based on the description. The taste was horrible as others have commented. It was completely unpalatable. I would not grow this again.

What are the pros? Easy to grow, abundant fruit

What are the cons? Poor taste and texture

Review:

I agree with Lauren S. The taste was somewhat bitter, and the skin of the tomato was too thick, which gave it an unappraling texture. Overall, it was just not a pleasant tomato for eating straight out of the garden, in salads, etc. I did not try turning it into paste or sauce; maybe that is where this tomato shines?

What are the pros? Look pretty, productive plant

What are the cons? Tastes bad

Review:

I was shocked and dismayed when I took a bite of the placero tomato. It tastes bitter. Unpleasantly so. We had a panel of tasters who all found this tomato extremely unpalatable. Unless we had some strange growing condition that rendered our fruit bitter, I cannot advise anyone to plant this tomato.
