(C. maxima) 95 days Most beautiful flattened and ribbed large fruit are a gorgeous deep red-orange. A very old French Heirloom, this was the most common pumpkin in the Central Market in Paris back in the 1880's. The flesh is tasty in pies or baked. This one can also be picked small, like summer squash, and fried. It is a good yielder too.

What are the pros? Beautiful shape

What are the cons? Huge Massive Vines took up spa

Review:

I was so pleased with the Rouge Vif d'entempes. I only wanted to grow one of each species of squash (I.E. C. maxima, C. moschata, C. pepo) to be able to seed save, for my C. maxima, I chose this, it was so beautiful in the garden, massive red wheels of pumpkin, the vines grew easily over 20ft, despite being a space hog they yielded well, my only complaint which is really my own fault is that several were "sampled" on by two local porcupines limiting my storable yield. I also had a freak frost at about 95days so although all pumpkins were orange/red I'm sure several more weeks would have done them good. Really, for a big, gorgeous pumpkin, 95 days doesn't seem unreasonable. If you only grow ONE, this is a great choice! Also, I've made pie, muffins and soup with my pumpkins, it has the most velvety, rich consistency after roasting, not stringy or watery. It was delicious.

What are the pros? Prolific & Beautiful Fruits

What are the cons? Spreads

Review:

We started 12 plants, but only planted the best 4 -- all we had room for. And WOW did these spread. But they also produced beyond our expectations -- 7-8 fruits per plant, all good size.

What are the pros? Goog eating

What are the cons? Large vines

Review:

I love this pumpkin and have for years. We grew this variety again this year in limited space with only one pumpkin as a trophy. This specimen weighed in at 45 lbs, just yesterday and bears great ribs a handsome orane color and a bit of green motteling. During it growth it's vine grew up and over an adjacent 15 ft burning bush and the pumpkin initially took shape 5 ft from the ground. During the vines/pumpkins growth the bush bent to its will and arrived ultimately, on the ground. This years pumpkin will serve initially as decoration for a period of time then ultimately as a pie, well, more than one pie ... And pumpkin squares and ..... Soup ....
