(C. maxima) One of the most stunning squashes around! The big glowing, oblong globes are a glowing, brilliant orange-red and covered with fantastic bumps! This old variety was introduced as Victorby James J.H. Gregory of Marblehead, MA in 1897. It was recently reintroduced as Red Warty Thing.

What are the pros? It's weirdness, it's flavor!

What are the cons? None!

Review:

This "thing" is super easy to grow, resists aphids and whiteflies where my other squashes succumbed. I baked it up for a side veggie for a turkey dinner, then once I tasted it I decided to turn it into pie! Absolutely delicious, flavorful and not stringy at all!

Review:

I've grown this in the past and had little luck. This year I tried "for the last time!" and they exploded! I have a ton of them. Regular watering seems to be the key (we installed timed watering system). You don't need much space, I just pick up the tendrils as they creep into the path and throw them back on top of the others. Leaves and all got almost four feet tall, but I garnered a couple dozen of these in less than 10 x 10 space. Highly recommend for marketing if watering is consistent. Squash bugs all over them, but still they turned out fine!

Have had no luck with this one so far but we are in the drought hitting the midwest. vines are growing well but no blooms so no fruit set at all.
