(C. maxima) 110 days One of the most stunning squashes around! The big glowing, oblong globes are a glowing, brilliant orange-red and covered with fantastic bumps! This old variety was introduced as Victorby James J.H. Gregory of Marblehead, MA in 1897. It was recently reintroduced as Red Warty Thing.

What are the cons? bugs like them

Review:

A very neat squash to grow, very good for kid's gardens. I grew some awhile back, and I am growing them again this year. The warts are really great.

What are the pros? Beautiful plant potential

What are the cons? Died immediately.

Review:

This plant looked intriguing, so I ordered the seeds. Plants came up well. Leaves were large. Plant looked healthy. Then one day, the plant just died. I planted this seed a couple of times, with the same results. Not sure what happened. Probably would have had beautiful fruit if the plants would have lived.

What are the pros? Great fun to watch it grow

What are the cons? Took 2 people to lift one

Review:

This seed was a gift and to be polite I planted just 1. The package said it could reach 20# so I thought I was pretty safe. The vine raced all over the garden and into the goat pen and very quickly started putting out fruit...lots of huge, lumpy, first yellow, then dark orange fruit. The largest weighed #48 and the smallest at harvest was #28! Maturity was 'way after the county fair so none were entered. They are so large that I have to give them away sight unseen. They are pretty intimidating at first. I have not cut one up yet, but I know for a fact it won't fit in the oven and there'll be little room left in the freezer. I'm hoping it will taste good because there will be a lot to get rid of if it doesn't. I am an optimist.

What are the pros? Great red warty rhino skin

What are the cons? none

Review:

I've grown this beast a few times and usually get one or two fruits per plant. Average weight is about 20 pounds. Rhino tough hide so be sure to have a hatchet handy. Flesh is dark orange, very thick and simply delicious. Highly recommended.
